Abstract: First President Mother M. Thomasine Frye Collection contains material related to the tenure of the first president of the University of St. Francis, Mother M. Thomasine Frye (1928-1938). It contains correspondence, photographs, reports, and materials related to conferences and meetings attended by the President.

History:Mother M. Thomasine was the first named president of the one-year old Assisi Junior College in 1926. Under her direction, the College gained accreditation with North Central Association and became a senior college by 1928. Mother Thomasine encouraged faculty members to do research study, to join learned societies, and to participate in educational programs. She felt the most important factor to students’ education was a faculty equipped with knowledge in subject matter, enthusiastic in their teaching, and exemplars of scholarship, culture and virtue.
