Library Reserves

All content on the print or electronic library reserves shall be in compliance with U.S. Copyright Law, or permission shall be secured from the copyright owner by the person seeking to use the material.

Brown Library offers two kinds of reserves: print and electronic. Both types of reserve materials allow students to access the course readings without charge. Print reserves are held at the Library Circulation desk and are available for students to borrow. Electronic reserves are made available to students through the course reserve section of the Brown Library Catalog and permits multiple students to use the item simultaneous, and is available 24 hours a day.

To place an item on reserve, faculty must fill out the online Brown Library Reserve Materials Request Form and submit the completed form and all materials to be placed on reserve at least three weeks before the beginning of the semester in which the materials are required. At the end of the semester, all materials will be removed from the reserves. Materials that instructors wish to use for a subsequent semester must be resubmitted to the library prior to the next semester, unless you select "Academic Year - both Fall and Spring Semester" option.

Brown Library does not seek copyright clearance for reserve materials; this responsibility falls to the faculty placing the item on reserve. For all items submitted for reserve, Brown Library assumes copyright permissions have been obtained by the submitting faculty. Submitting the Reserve Materials Request form implies compliance with the Brown Library Reserves Policy. For more information on copyright please visit our copyright information page.
